123 Code Competition

Cuenta, Canta, Code, Compete
Collaboration between EarSketch and GoSTEM at Georgia Tech and 123 Andrés

Code Your Own Viral Remix!
This year, you’re invited to remix the Grammy Award–Winning duo 123 Andrés’s YouTube favorite "Los Números 1–20" using EarSketch — a free online platform where you can create music by writing code. No music or programming experience required. If you can type, you can make beats!

What is EarSketch?
EarSketch lets students create real music using Python or JavaScript. You’ll drag in sound clips, write simple code to arrange loops, adjust tempo, add effects, and build a track — just like a music producer — but with code as your instrument.

What does a remix competition mean?
You’ll take pieces of the original track — sound clips, vocals, beats — and reimagine them in your own style. Want to add a hip-hop beat? Slow it down? Make it electronic? Add your own voice or sound effects? It’s your remix—you are the producer and coder.

Let’s get started! Explore the details, resources, and requirements below.

123 Andrés

Billboard calls GRAMMY winners 123 Andrés “rock stars for little language learners.” Andrés and Christina perform lively concerts in Spanish and English on stages across the US and Latin America, and are even co-hosts of the award-winning PBS podcast Jamming on the Job.

Andrés grew up in Bogotá, Colombia, and learned how to play the guitar from his father at an early age. He had his first studio experience at age 8, and from there he went on to earn a Doctorate in music and won the National Composition Contest in Colombia for one of his early songs.

Christina grew up in the Midwest in a Spanish-speaking immigrant family from Colombia. Her love for the stage started when her mom signed her up for theater and dance as a child. After college she worked in the classroom as a public school teacher, and received a Masters in Education. When she joined 123 Andrés, she found her calling teaching through music.
